I have collaborated with Gayle Nelson on two analyses of intercultural asynchronous computer-mediated communication (ACMC) among applied linguistics and TESOL graduate students participating in a fully-online course. One analysis used the theory of communities of practice and iterative analysis to illuminate identity construction in this CMC context (Nelson & Temples, 2011). The other relied on a corpus-assisted approach to understand the impact of this CMC environment on language use (Temples & Nelson, 2013). |
